The Gauhati Press Club (GPC) is a professional institution representing the media fraternity of Assam and serving as a platform for journalists, media professionals and the wider community.
The idea of establishing a common platform for working journalists in Gauhati is believed to have emerged in the early 1970s, when a group of senior journalists envisioned a space where members of the profession could meet, exchange ideas and engage collectively on matters concerning journalism and society.

From its beginnings as a meeting place for working journalists, Gauhati Press Club has evolved into a space for professional interaction, public dialogue and collective engagement. Over the years, the Club has provided a platform for journalists to interact with political leaders, policymakers, administrators, experts, academics, civil society representatives and people from different sections of society.\n\nIts premises have hosted press conferences, media interactions, seminars, workshops, discussions and numerous professional and social initiatives, making the Club an integral part of the public life of Guwahati and Assam.\n\nThe Club’s journey reflects, in many ways, the journey of journalism itself—constantly evolving, adapting to new technologies and responding to a changing society.

Gauhati Press Club brings together a diverse community of media professionals. With more than 1,000 members, including General, Associate and Patron members, the Club represents journalists and professionals associated with different forms of media and communication.\n\nThe diversity of its membership is one of the Club’s greatest strengths. It creates opportunities for interaction between generations of journalists, encourages the exchange of professional experiences and contributes to a stronger and more connected media community.
